What is the setting of Gifted Hands? I am so pleased that we randomly chose to watch Gifted Hands on Sat. This is a well done movie, a beautiful story about an amazing man.
After sharing about the movie with our dear friends, whose child had sustained a brain injury as an unborn , we were amazed to discover that this is the Dr who performed surgery on their child shortly after the twins from Germany. This story starts with a boy , unknown and unpopular in his school. Yet, the prospect of performing a challenging operation where he will attempt to separate a pair of twins who are attached at the head (which comes with a high risk of losing one of the babies), has him pondering the path that led him to this place in his life.
Ben Carson (Cuba Gooding Jr.) is a neurosurgeon with Gifted Hands. GIFTED HANDS: THE BEN CARSON STORY is one of the best made-for-television movies ever produced. It is the true story of a black child raised by a single mother who constantly encouraged him to use his God-given gifts. He grows from being a poor student to the top of his class and then to become a world-famous neurosurgeon. For a film with a custody case at the heart of its plot, Gifted is surprisingly inert.
The takeaways about gifted children are well-trodden , the plot twists hardly twisty. The dialogue gives surprises away, and Slate and Spencer are wasted in underwritten roles. The film received mostly positive reviews from critics.
The movie, from an original screenplay by Tom Flynn (a cursory glance at whose filmography does not inspire rock-solid confidence), is about a very cute young girl enrolling in first grade , much against her will, because as it happens she’s an utter math whiz who prefers being home-schooled by her uncle Frank. It proudly proclaims the self-sacrificial, life-changing joys of family. GIFTED HANDS : THE BEN CARSON STORY is one of the best made-for-television movies ever produced. A modest and unassuming. I wanted to make that clear because for some reason Amazon has mistakenly grouped all of the reviews for GIFTED HANDS (the movie ) with all the reviews for GIFTED HANDS (the docummentary). The movie overplays its hand at times, as when Frank brings Roberta and Mary to visit a hospital maternity ward for … well, a reason that doesn’t quite make it. But “Gifted” is on balance a good-hearted entertainment that manages its plot curveballs, and everything else, with a show of compassion that’s a kind of tonic for our Increasingly Strident Times.
